Karen Reid
I am an abstract artist and work intuitively. I use acrylics and mixed media and I’m always seeking new and different ways of remixing materials. This promotes discovery rather than repetition, so my artwork is always evolving.
I’m inspired by everyday objects, buildings, road markings and graffiti. I like to incorporate recycled ‘anything’ into my artwork – billboard posters, cardboard, paper, packaging and labels. These have beautiful designs and colours and add texture to my art.
I am a keen urban/street photographer and I see art everywhere. The accidental art I come across inspires and influences my artistic style.
I enjoy the challenge and process of creating quirky compositions using bright and vivid colours, structured shapes and energetic expressions.
I live on the south coast of Wellington.
