Landscape artist – Sally Simons
Sally Simons studied Visual Communication at Wellington Polytechnic, graduating in 1980. Initially working as an illustrator she relocated to London for a time, working for Tony White at Animus Films.
Drawn back to the beauty of New Zealand she returned and opened a studio in Art House in Wellington. Her illustrations and designs have adorned NZ Christmas stamps (1990, 1998), Department of Conservation education media, children books, furnishing textiles and used by Landcorp and other New Zealand companies.
Sally started painting New Zealand’s spectacular coastlines and bush in the early 1990’s and has regularly exhibited her paintings ever since. She draws inspiration from the beauty of the New Zealand coast and its unique silvery light with the native flora and birds. The headlands, estuaries and distant islands across light reflecting seas. She sees a rare wildness and beauty in this unique landscape of Aotearoa.
Her life is now divided between Auckland and Monmouth, Wales. She regularly exhibits her work in both New Zealand and in the UK.
