Nicola Gibbons says of her work; “my practise as an artist explores and visualises worlds that are normally hidden from view; alluring textural paintings investigate interior scapes of the human body, the inner mechanics at work. It is important that my work conveys the power and health of the human body, to heighten awareness of inner workings and majestic biology.”
Opposite extremes of scale are also explored in paint, from the micro to the macro. Illuminated Planetary scapes reach out like telescopes to reveal worlds outside the earth’s surface.
Inspiration and imagery is sourced from various medical, biology and scientific books. Which in turn, has brought an increasing interest in the evolving relationship between Art and Science.
Nicola studied Fine Art at Otago Polytechnic School of Art, where she majored in Painting and finished her degree in 2005.
Examples of Nicola’s work can be viewed at Mobile Art Gallery, 23 Edwin Street, Mt Eden, Auckland.
