Jude Nye

Jude Nye works across a variety of media, including drawing, painting, photography and installation. As a conceptual expressionist her work draws on the history of art, with a particular interest in the qualities and possibilities Jude Nye of paint as a medium.

Inspiration

Her inspiration comes primarily through experimentation with process and in a reversal of the normal additive process she uses subtractive methods to build organic shapes that both reveal and conceal the history of their making. She also ‘casts’ paint and through a process of isolation and re–presentation aesthetically transforms paint skins into paintings that contain many references. Often the references are architectural eliciting half remembered and imaginary architectural structures.

Jude has exhibited work in over twenty group and four solo shows in New Zealand. She often works collaboratively with other artists and has recently completed a major public art project in Auckland. Her work is held in private collections in New Zealand, France, Germany and the United States. She holds a BVA, BA and Diploma in Teaching from Auckland and Canterbury Universities.
