Florence Egasse

Florence Egasse, is a French contemporary artist who lives in Christchurch. These days she spends a lot of her time in Hanmer Springs, her second Canterbury home.  She is a self taught artist who has always had the need to create.

Egasse discovered art in the galleries and museums of Paris, but her interest in painting was truly ignited during her time working in the museums of Bayeux, Normandy (France) as a student. There she spent hours studying the composition and techniques of classic and modern artists.

Later based in London she began experimenting with acrylic paint and was immediately drawn to the abstract quality of nature. This remains her passion today, her style developing into an expressive exploration of texture, light and transparency. She finds her inspiration around her, from nature, people, children’s drawings, her travels and interior design. She considers her work as an open book, for viewers to interpret and react to.

With her corporate career behind her, she feels privileged to dedicate a lot of time to her childhood passion and put a smile on someone’s face.
