Emma Wright

Emma is a painter, writer and public speaker.

Her paintings are layered with aspects of warm and cool pigments, pushing and pulling visual tension. There is patience between each layer, allowing it to ‘sit’ Emma sees organic forms take place. Positioned, rotated and even exposed to natural elements such as the rain, the canvas acquires an out of control aesthetic. The behaviour of the paint takes on its own form. This is a surprise element to herself and the viewer, no one image has been preconceived or contrived.

Love is something worked for, freedom often fought for and personal integrity is what we gift ourselves. Emma’s paintings are a celebration of this, she endeavours to make these qualities known to the viewer. Her appreciation for art extends to a personal belief that it has the aptitude to bring purpose, and self-reflection.

Confidence is evident through layers that are discreetly exposed. Instead of previous painted areas being ‘painted over,’ rather they are veiled. This offers us the privilege of unveiling, enjoying what lies beneath, within and at the fore.

Emma has been profiled in The Herald, Good Magazine, Her Magazine and House and Garden.  She has exhibited in Melbourne, Los Angeles, London, Auckland, Wellington, Queenstown and Waiheke Island.  Her work is held in collections in New Zealand and around the world.
